University of Ethnic Communities, founded in 1951, is located in Weigongcun, an area packed with ethnic variation. Its purpose is to train cadres of national minority birth.
Approximately 4,000 faculty members and students from 50 ethnic communities fill eight departments: Politics, Language and Literature of Ethnic Groups, Mandarin Language and Literature, History, Art, Mathematics, Physics, and Cadre Training.
