The Press Office under the Ministry of Health published Tuesday afternoon a press release on the latest SARS situation on the Chinese mainland. On May 13, 10 provinces reported new SARS cases, of which, 4 provinces reported both new cases and new suspected cases, 1 province reported new cases and 5 provinces reported new suspected cases, and the remaining 21 provinces reported no cases.

By 10:00 am May 13, 25 provinces have reported SARS cases. So far, Hainan, Guizhou, Yunnan, Qinghai provinces, Tibet and Xinjiang Uygur autonomous regions have not found any cases. Of the provinces having reported suspected or diagnosed SARS cases, Heilongjiang Province still reports no diagnosed case; Shanghai, Anhui, Gansu, Jiangsu, Hubei, Hunan provinces and Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region reported less than 10 diagnosed cases respectively; Chongqing, Zhejiang, Liaoning, Fujian, Jiangxi and Shandong provinces reported less than 5 diagnosed cases respectively. Fujian Province has reported no new case for 35 days; Hunan Province has reported no new case for 22 days; Shandong Province has reported no new case for 19 days; Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region has reported no new case for 11 days; Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region has reported no new case for 10 days; Jiangxi Province has reported no new case for 9 days, Hubei Province has reported no new case for 7 days; Henan and Chongqing have reported no new cases for 6 days respectively; and Zhejiang has reported no new case for 5 days.

From 10:00 am May 12 to 10:00 am May 13, China reported 80 new cases, 72 patients recovered and 10 deaths. Of the 80 cases, 57 used to be suspected but now are confirmed as SARS patients.

Of these figures:

Beijing reported 48 new cases (of which 34 used to be suspected but now confirmed as SARS patients), 41 patients recovered and 5 deaths

Tianjin reported 4 new cases (3 of which used to be suspected but now confirmed as SARS patients), and 1 death

Hebei reported 14 new cases (10 of which used to be suspected but now confirmed as SARS patients), and 1 patients recovered

Shanxi reported 13 new cases (of which 9 used to be suspected but now confirmed as SARS patients), 24 patients recovered and 1 death

Inner Mongolia reported no new case, 2 patients recovered and 3 deaths

Guangdong reported no new case, and 3 patients recovered

Sichuan reported 1 new case (which used to be suspected but now confirmed as SARS patients)

Shaanxi reported no new case, and 1 patient recovered.

By 10:00 am May 13, China had a total of 5,086 SARS cases (942 medical workers), which included 1,765 patients who had recovered and been discharged from hospital and 262 deaths. Now 3,059 patients are receiving treatment in hospitals.

From 10:00 am May 12 to 10:00 am May 13, China also reported 84 new suspected cases, including 35 from Beijing, 4 from Tianjin, 6 from Hebei, 8 from Shanxi, 3 from Inner Mongolia, 1 each from Shanghai, Anhui and Ningxia, 25 from Guangdong.

From 10:00 am May 12 to 10:00 am May 13, China reported 91 misdiagnosed suspected cases, of which, 41 from Beijing, 17 from Shanxi, 16 from Guangdong, 9 from Inner Mongolia, 2 each from Tianjin, Hebei and Ningxia, 1 each from Shanghai and Jiangsu. By 10:00 am May 13, China had a total of 2,412 suspected cases.
