Ninety-four percent of Peruvians reject the United States-led war on Iraq, a nationwide poll by a private firm, Datum, showed on Friday.
Only 5.2 percent of those polled was in favor of the armed conflict, and 0.8 percent preferred not to give an opinion.
Of those polled, 74.3 percent said US President George W. Bush launched a war trying to control the exploitation and trade of crude oil. Only 5.3 percent of the polled believed the US aimed simply to end the government of Saddam Hussein.
Also, 37.5 percent suggested President Alejandro Toledo maintain a neutral position in the conflict; 35.9 percent demanded the president express his opposition to the war, but 7.9 percent asked him to pronounce his support for UN resolutions.
Datum's poll was carried out nationwide, among 1,109 individuals from March 28 to March 31
