President of the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) Enrique V. Iglesias said on Monday that a prolonged war in Iraq could affect the Latin American economy.
There could be negative effects "on the growth pace of the world economy" if the US-led military operation is prolonged, Iglesias told reporters.
If the Iraqi conflict lasts long, there would be implications on the Latin American economy too as world economic growth will be affected, Iglesias said.
In regard to the impact of higher oil prices, he noted that situations vary in Latin American countries as there are various producers, such as Mexico, Venezuela and Argentina, where petroleum is "very important."
