Michael Lindsay, a Briton, was an English teacher at Yanjing University (now Peking University). Sympathetic towards China's War of Resistance against Japan, Lindsay worked for the Eighth Route Army secretly after Beiping (now Beijing) was taken over by the Japanese army. After the Pearl Harbor Incident happened, he and his wife fled Beiping.
With the help of the Eighth Route Army, they arrived in the Communist-controlled region where they lived and worked until the end of the war. During this period, he shared weal and woe with the Chinese people, making great contributions to China's telecommunications development.
After the war, Lindsay returned to Great Britain in October 1945 via Chongqing and India.
He and his family were invited to visit China many times after the People's Republic of China was founded in 1949. He was an unforgettable friend of the Chinese people.
