Harbin in Heilongjiang province has moved 28 polluting firms out of town. Thanks to the move, the firms that have moved to the city?s outlying areas have made room of 1.708 million square meters of land in downtown Harbin and obtained active capital for the replacement of equipment and the product fix.
The city plans to move a total of 64 such firms during the 10th five-year plan period. This year, ten big firms will move out.
The city?s industry was mostly built in the 1950s. Heavy industry accounts for the majority of it. Upon completion of this move in five to 10 years, there will be no polluting firms in downtown and the industrial structure will be more rational. The urban-service industries will be located within the second ring road and manufacturing and basic materials industries will be in the outlying areas.
