As colleges and universities up and down the country open their doors for the spring semester, many students will be returning armed with a new kind of experience after an increasing number of young people have begun playing the stock-market, the Market News reported.

 

"All students in my class have bought some stocks. Two years ago as undergraduates, a few of us indulged in doing so but the situation has changed since then. We not only buy stocks because of the strong environment but also since many of us want to work in the securities industry after graduation. To that end, we need some practical experience right now," a Masters student at the Renmin University of China was quoted as saying.

 

This share-buying trend seems to have spread among many economics students at famous colleges.

 

Currently, shareholders among undergraduates have risen to form 20% of the corpus, this proportion rising to 30% for postgraduates. Entire classes of finance and economics majors have engaged in playing the stock market.

 

Industrial analysts have reacted to this trend, saying that as more students become shareholders, the overall quality of shareholders will rise and this will in turn make them more rational stock buyers in terms of the securities market.
