Local People's Congresses at All Levels

The local people's congresses at all levels are local organs of state power. Local people's congresses at or above county level each have a standing committee as their permanent body.

Deputies to the people's congresses of provinces, autonomous regions, municipalities directly under the central government, autonomous prefectures, and cities divided into districts are elected by the people's congresses at the next lower level, and deputies to the people's congresses of counties, autonomous counties, cities not divided into districts, municipal districts, townships, ethnic townships, and towns are elected directly by the constituents.

The term of office of local people's congresses is five years. These local people's congresses meet in session at least once a year, and those of townships, ethnic townships, and towns generally meet twice a year.

地方各級人民代表大會

地方各級人民代表大會是地方國家權力機關。縣級以上的地方各級人民代表大會常務委員會是本級人民代表大會的常設機關。

省、自治區(qū)、直轄市、自治州、設區(qū)的市的人民代表大會代表由下一級的人民代表大會選舉；縣、自治縣、不設區(qū)的市、市轄區(qū)、鄉(xiāng)、民族鄉(xiāng)、鎮(zhèn)的人民代表大會代表由選民直接選舉。地方各級人民代表大會每屆任期五年。地方各級人民代表大會會議每年至少舉行一次。鄉(xiāng)、民族鄉(xiāng)、鎮(zhèn)的人民代表大會會議一般每年舉行兩次。
