The spirit of the Gutian Meeting

In December 1929 the Fourth Army of the Chinese Workers' and Peasants' Red Army held its Ninth Party Congress at Gutian, a village in Shanghang County, Fujian Province. The meeting reviewed the experience gained in developing the Party and building the red army since the armed uprising in Nanchang on August 1, 1927. It laid down the basic rules for building a people's army, restated the CPC's absolute leadership over the army, and defined the nature, mission and tasks of the Red Army and other issues with a critical bearing on the Party's future.

The significance of the Gutian Meeting lies in the way that it highlighted the Party's ideological base, pragmatic aims, determination to serve the people, and advanced nature. To carry on this spirit in the new era means to maintain the political relationship with the military, and retain the political integrity of the people's army.

古田會議精神

1929年12月，中國工農紅軍第四軍第九次黨的代表大會在福建省上杭縣古田村召開，即著名的古田會議。會議認真總結了南昌起義以來建黨建軍的經驗，確立了人民軍隊建設的基本原則，重申了中國共產黨對紅軍實行絕對領導，規定了紅軍的性質、宗旨和任務等事關黨的事業興衰成敗的根本性問題。古田會議精神的核心是思想建黨，精髓是求實創新，本質是一切為民，根本是保持黨的先進性。新時代弘揚古田會議精神，就是要更好地抵制“軍隊非政治化”的影響，確保人民軍隊的政治本色。
