The Spirit of the Silk Road

The ancient Silk Road is a trade route. More than this, it is a road of friendship. Throughout the millennia, interactions along this route between the Chinese nation and other people from numerous cultural backgrounds have shaped the spirit of the Silk Road, which is embodied in peace and cooperation, openness and inclusiveness, mutual learning, and mutual benefit. This spirit is a valuable heritage of human civilization. It also informs one of the fundamental principles for international interactions today.

The Silk Road Initiative, proposed by China in 2013, is a continuation of such a spirit. It calls for interactions and exchanges between civilizations, respect for individual countries and the approaches to development that they choose, and promotion of peace through mutually beneficial cooperation and dialogue.

絲路精神

古代絲綢之路是一條貿易之路，更是一條友誼之路。在中華民族同其他民族的友好交往中，逐步形成了以“和平合作、開放包容、互學互鑒、互利共贏”為核心的絲路精神。這是人類文明的寶貴遺產。這一精神，也成為現代國際社會交往的最基本原則之一。中國在2013年提出“一帶一路”倡議，就是對這一精神的傳承和發揚。弘揚絲路精神，就是要促進文明互鑒，尊重道路選擇，堅持合作共贏，倡導對話和平。
