Four Confirmed Dead, Five Missing in Fishing Boat Capsize

Officials confirmed Thursday that four people have been confirmed dead and five are still missing after a fishing boat capsized in south China's Guangdong Province Tuesday.

The over-loaded fishing boat, 7.2 meters long and 1.3 meters wide, carried 13 people, including a three-year-old child, when it sank in the middle of turbulent Qinjiang River section in Shuikou Township, Xingning City, in late Tuesday afternoon. Four people, including boat owner Liu Yuejin, were rescued.

The authorities of Xingning City immediately sent six rescue ships and more than 150 people to the scene following the mishap.

As of 3 p.m. Wednesday, four bodies had been recovered. The sank boat was salvaged at the dusk of Tuesday, rescuers said.

Rescue work is stilling going on at press time and professionaldivers from other places are expected to join the rescuers.
