Dong Kingman, a renowned Chinese-American artist specialized in watercolor painting, put on an exhibition Saturday in Hong Kong Central library, in retrospect of his artistic career.
The exhibition, "Dong Kingman: Watercolor Master", comprises of nearly 100 watercolor paintings and drawings from 1940s to these days.
Many paintings showed visually current people and scenery around the world and told audience vividly old stories the artist had experienced in the past 70 years.
Kingman, whose painting are represented in the collections of over 50 museums, is regarded as one of the premier watercolor masters of the twentieth century. Born in Oakland, the United States, and grew up in Hong Kong, Kingman, received and showed two different kinds of cultures and promoted through all these years the understanding and accomplishment of watercolor painting to a new height.
The 91-year-old English-speaking artist is very passionate about Chinese culture and has been to the Mainland many times. He has just finished an exhibition in Beijing on Nov. 15, and the next is scheduled in Shanghai in March, 2003, at the invitation of the Ministry of Culture.
