Cecilia Cheung Pak-chi was born in 1980 in Hong Kong. She returned to Hong Kong after she completed her secondary studies in Australia.
She participated in a television advertisement that caught the attention of magazine publishers, film and advertising companies alike.
In 1999 she was handpicked by comedic actor Stephen Chow to appear in his film King of Comedy, which was also her first film role. Cheung then joined the cast of Fly Me to Polaris, costarring popular Taiwanese star Richie Ren. The film was a rousing success and this performance established Cheung as a formidable new force in Hong Kong cinema.
Subsequently, she also made a transition to the music industry, and released albums including No Matter How the Weather, Destination, A Brand New Me, Cecilia Cheung and A Brand New Image.
Cheung later signed a film contract with China Star Group and participated in a host of films including Twelve Night, The Legend of Speed, Help, Tokyo Raiders, Wu Yen, Para Para Sakura, Everyday is Valentine, Master Q 2001, Mighty Baby, The Lion Roars and Cat and Mouse. Her latest film is Honesty, teams up with Richie Ren again.
