A white marble antique basin nestled in a parterre in Peking University was found stolen on Sunday, reported the Beijing News.

 

 

This photo, taken on Sunday, July 1, 2007, shows the base from a stolen white marble antique basin in a parterre in Peking University.

 

According to the security director of Peking University, the basin was made in the early Qing Dynasty (1616-1911) and experts were assessing its exact value.

 

Mr. Hu, the security director, said they found the basin stolen after they received a report around 8 o'clock on Sunday morning.

 

Only the supporting base remained and most of the flowers from the 3-meter diameter parterre were found trampled.

 

Mr. Hu added they did not have any suspects, as there are no monitor cameras on the cultural relics which scatter the campus of Peking University. The case is under investigation by police.
