Iran Slams US Pressure on Nuclear Issue

Iran on Thursday slammed the constant pressure exerted by Washington on Tehran concerning its nuclear program, as the UN nuclear watchdog is to adopt are solution on the issue, the official IRNA news agency reported.

"Experience has shown that Americans use pressure and resort to hue and cry whenever they run out of any justification and logic to convince others," Foreign Ministry spokesman Hamid-Reza Asefi was quoted by the agency as saying.

Asefi cited the Lavizan site, which the United States said is an illegal nuclear facility but failed to provide substantial testimony, to prove the US accusation to be "a lie."

"Before the former session of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) Board of Governors' meeting, the US had mentioned Lavizan, an area in northern Tehran with hue and cry, then it was proved a lie," Asefi said.

"In the ongoing IAEA Board meeting in Vienna, the American officials have named Parchin to deceive the IAEA to get short term consent for a resolution," he added.

Asefi further said that the IAEA's report had proved that Iran's nuclear program is peaceful in line with the international laws and regulations.

"Europe and the IAEA should be happy to see almost all the issues have been settled through expert discussions and the few remaining cases would be solved through dialogue and mutual understanding free from any useless pressure and intimidation," he said.

The IAEA is holding its governors' meeting in Vienna, with Iran's nuclear issue high on the agenda.

The United States, accusing Iran of secretly developing atomic weapons, is trying to prompt the IAEA to refer Iran's case to the UN Security Council.

Tehran has been consistently denying the US accusation, asserting that it is politically motivated and Iran's nuclear research is fully peaceful.
