Cut Above The Rest

In order to communicate the basics of the collection for autumn/winter 2003, Vidal Sassoon has presented it as "A day in the life of a haircut".

It begins with a classic haircut that shows the foundation of a technically perfect cut. This is then translated into a fashion statement, by injecting movement into the look. The final image shows both the dynamic and still translation of the look by capturing it in the true portrait of a woman.

The inspiration for this collection comes from 60 different former hairstyles and fusions with the latest cuts. It presents optimism and highlights a daring attitude and image, while the blending of eras creates a dynamic of cuts and colours, much like the trends in clothing fashion today.

"We like to see this look as a new wave. That has been my inspiration for this collection," said Tim Hartley, International Creative Director for Vidal Sassoon, worldwide.

"It concentrates on cuts that encourage the natural movement of hair, which makes for a very carefree look, defining modern glamour as confidence," he said. "These styles work perfectly with the fashion looks of today, playing a key role in this season, in which we collaborated with internationally renowned stylist Jane How. Her street savvy edge paired with years of experience completed the new wave."

The hairstyles in this collection are based on contemporary techniques spliced with the classics. It uses stylish layering of varied flattering lengths, featuring cheeky elements of design. Defined fringes with asymmetry and sculptured hairlines at the nape and sides finish the looks, while tonal colour featured in the collection emphasizes form and texture, enhancing a brilliant shine.
