British Foreign Secretary to Visit India, Pakistan

British Foreign Office said on Tuesday that Foreign Secretary Jack Straw is to visit India and Pakistan next week to help ease tensions between the two nuclear powers over the disputed territory of Kashmir.

"The possibility of war between India and Pakistan is real and very disturbing," a Foreign Office statement quoted Straw as saying on Tuesday.

"The international community is watching events with mounting concern. This is a crisis the world cannot ignore," Straw said.

But the foreign secretary stressed that there was no "precooked" peace plan from Britain although he would do all he could to ease tensions there.

But the foreign office statement did not gave any further detail as when Straw would travel to the region or what his itinerary would be.
