A tectonic earthquake measuring 5.7 on the Richter scale jolted Gorontalo province in Indonesia's north Sulawesi, at 0215 a.m. local time on Monday (1815 GMT Sunday), but there were no reports of damage or casualties.
The quake centered at 0.18 degrees north latitude and 122.78 degrees east longitude, a Meteorology and Geophysics official told Xinhua in Jakarta.
The quake's epicenter was traced at about 51 kilometers south of Gorontalo city at a depth of 142 kilometers beneath the Tomini Bay.
This was the second earthquake in Sulawesi Island this month. On December 1, an earthquake measuring 5.7 on the Richter scale rocked Central Sulawesi province.
Indonesia is prone to seismic jolts because of its location on the Pacific "Ring of Fire."
