"Tibetans enjoy full freedom of press," Losang Puncog, a senior official in charge of press and publication in Tibet told a visiting Belgian delegation in Lhasa Friday.
Tibet Autonomous Region officials and the delegation had a seminar Friday afternoon on issues concerning Tibet's economy, culture, education, health, and religion.
Tubdain, an official in charge of ethnic and religious affairs,said religious sects in Tibet live in harmony because of the central government's unbiased policy towards the three religions in the region -- Buddhism, Islam, and Catholicism.
He said in Tibet there are more than 1,200 religious venues andno religious conflicts have taken place since the People's Republic of China was founded in 1949.
Zhang Hui, an education official, briefed the Belgian guests onTibet's educational development. He said although Tibet still lagsbehind the other parts of China in this field, it has made great progress, with 33,000 people receiving a college education and nearly 250,000 receiving middle-level education by 2001.
The local officials and Belgian visitors also discussed such topics as Tibetan medicine.
