Xiasha Bridge, China's longest and widest bridge over the Qiantang River, was smoothly joined up in the morning of June 6.
With the construction kicked off on December 30, 1999, the Xiasha Bridge is a key project along the expressway built around the Hangzhou city, as well as an important part linking up Shanghai and Ruili trunk line.
The bridge runs a full length of 8230 meters, with 2400 meters over the Qiantang River. Built according to expressway standard, it is a dual-traffic bridge of six lanes with a width of 34.5 meters. It is located at a spot withstanding the strongest Qiantang waves and its main girder spans 232 meters, the longest of its kind in China. The bridge piers go down as deep as 115 meters, also a record in domestic super-large bridge construction
