Vongfong, a strong tropical cyclone, will bring torrential rains to Guangdong province and the Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, both in south China, and to their interior neighbors, the provinces of Hunan and Guizhou.
According to a forecast from China's Central Meteorological Station Tuesday morning, Vongfong, which originated in the South China Sea Saturday afternoon, swept across the city of Zhanjiang in Guangdong province around 8:40 pm Monday. The eye of the storm was in the northwest of Guangxi at 8:00 am Tuesday, the forecast said.
The storm, although weakening as it moves northwestwards, will nevertheless produce gale force 6-8 winds in the central and northof the South China Sea and along Guangdong's coastal areas throughout Tuesday.
The forecast indicated that western Guangdong, the central and northern parts of Guangxi, the southern and western parts of Hunanand most of Guizhou province will have torrential rain or occasionally rainstorms.
