Foreign currency revenue and expenditure in Shanghai, China's economic hub, rose to 90 billion US dollars in 2002, up 17.19 percent from 2001.
In 2002, the city's overall foreign currency revenue topped 45.1 billion US dollars, a 17.29 percent rise from 2001. Meanwhile expenditure totaled 44.9 billion US dollars, up 16.89 percent from2001.
The figures were released by the Shanghai Branch of the State Administration of Foreign Exchange.
Branch sources said the increases should be attributed to the city's and China's fast growing economy since the country's accession to the World Trade Organization (WTO).
