US automaker Ford Motors Co. announced that it would recall from the Chinese market 193 Maverick cars whose windshield wipers reportedly have problems as from Saturday.
A source with the State Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine said on Saturday that Ford submitted a report to the Administration on Friday, saying that it would call back the 193 Maverick cars manufactured between Aug. 29 and Oct. 17, 2005.
Ford said the windshield wipers of the SUV to be called back were not put on lubricant oil during the manufacturing process.
The wipers may break and get distorted due to lack of lubricant and stop working in rainy days. This may affect drivers' view and cause accident, Ford said.
Thus far, it said, it has not received any report of car accidents or casualties caused by the problem.
