The awarding ceremony of American National Science Prize was held December 1 in the State Architecture Museum of America. Yuan Chen Fung, a Chinese-American scientist and other 16 prize-winners got the honor.
When meeting these winners, US President Bill Clinton praised them by saying that they've helped in changing the world and promoting the progress in the life of mankind and kept the United States at the tiptop of the world in the discovery and innovation in science.
The National Science Prize is the highest honor given in the United States in the field of science and technology. Founded by the Congress in 1959, it is presided over by the National Science Foundation, and so far, more than 386 people have been awarded the prize.
Afterwards, Yuan Chen Fung, master of bioengineering, now the biology professor of University of California at San Diego, said, that it is better for scientists across the Straits to have more chances for making cooperation and exchanges.
The scientists, Chinese by origin who have ever won the prize are S S Chen, C. S. Wu, C. W. Chu, Yuantseh Lee and S. T. Yau.
