China and Kazakhstan, both member states of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO), will hold an anti-terror drill from August 24-26 this year, China's Ministry of Public Security announced today.
The drill, code-named "Tianshan - I (2006)," will be jointly conducted by the Chinese and Kazakh law enforcement bodies and special services.
Jointly held in both countries, the drill will take place in Kazakhstan's eastern Alamty region as well as in western Chinese city of Yining in the Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region.
This drill will constitute the first ever joint anti-terror exercises between the two countries' special forces and law enforcement bodies, held under the SCO framework, said the ministry.
The drill aims to further implement the consensus, passed among member states at the SCO summit last June, on enhancing security cooperation as well as improve the coordination between China and Kazakhstan's law enforcement departments and special services.
