Basic Law Promotion Day Attracts Active Participation in HK

Members of the top two Hong Kong winning teams of the Basic Law Promotion Day Competition Monday put their winning entries into practice and presented them to their fellow schoolmates on campus.

The teams were asked in the competition, jointly organized by the Constitutional Affairs Bureau (CAB) and the Education and Manpower Bureau, to come up with proposals for holding one-day activities to promote the Basic Law in schools. The theme was "The implementation of 'One Country, Two Systems' in the HKSAR."

The activities organized by the first runner-up team of Madam Lau Kam Lung Secondary School of Miu Fat Buddhist Monastery proved a hit with the students of the whole school. They included dramas, games and displays revolving around the Basic Law.

Principal Assistant Secretary for Constitutional Affairs, DorisHo Pui Ling, visited the school and delivered a speech on the Basic Law to about 1,200 students, who not only showed interest in the subject but also responded enthusiastically in a quiz during the talk.

The second runner-up team, students of the Diocesan Girls' School, also staged a Basic Law Promotion Day with a variety of enlightening activities catered for both junior and senior form students including a quiz, a debate on issues relating to the Basic Law and a talk by senior counsel Daniel Fung.

Champion of the competition, St Paul's School (Lam Tin) team will hold the Promotion Day on Oct. 29.

The three winning teams were selected from 68 entries from 53 schools.
