Scholars from the two sides of the Taiwan Straits are scheduled to attend a seminar on the Japanese invasion to be held in Shinnying from September 18 to 22.
The seminar is one of the commemorative activities marking the 70th anniversary of the September 18 Incident, to be held in northeast China's Liaoning Province.
On September 18, 1931, the Japanese Army stationed in northeast China suddenly bombarded Shenyang under the excuse that explosions had occurred along the South Manchuria Railway. The world was shocked by the Japanese action. In January 1932, all the three provinces in northeast China were occupied by the Japanese army.
To remind the Chinese people of the national humiliation, September 18 was decided as a day to mark the incident.
The opening ceremony is expected to be held Tuesday in the September 18 History Museum in Shenyang, capital of Liaoning Province. The scholars will focus on the aftermath of Japanese aggression in China, the Chinese nation's struggle against Japanese imperialism, criticism of the right-wing forces in Japan which deny or beautify the aggression, and criticism of the forces for Taiwan's "independence".
Over 50 papers will be presented at the seminar. Some 150 people plan to attend it. More than 70 reporters from both sides of the Straits and the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region will cover the event.
