China completes deployment of BeiDou navigation system

The 55th and final BeiDou satellite was launched on June 23, 2020, marking the completion of China's nearly 30-year-long deployment of its satellite navigation network.

On July 31, 2020, the BeiDou-3 Navigation Satellite System (BDS) was officially launched for world service.

BDS offers one more choice for global users in terms of global navigation satellite systems, along with the United States'GPS, Russia's GLONASS, and Europe's Galileo system.

So far, BDS has been widely used in transportation, agriculture, forestry, fishery, hydrological monitoring, meteorological forecasts, disaster relief and other fields, according to the China Satellite Navigation Office.
