Approved by the Central Military Commission, a multinational navy event will be held to commemorate the 70th founding anniversary of the Chinese People's Liberation Army (PLA) Navy, a spokesperson for the Chinese military said Thursday.

The event will be hosted in Qingdao, a coastal city in east China's Shandong Province, said Ren Guoqiang, a spokesperson for the Ministry of National Defense, at a press conference.

This year marks the 70th anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China, and April 23 is the 70th founding anniversary of the PLA Navy.
