Six officials are facing charges over lax supervision of a coal mine that flooded on June 20, killing 13 miners in central China's Hunan province, prosecutors said on Thursday.

The six officials, including the chief engineer of the coal mine safety bureau of the city of Leiyang and the vice head of the Sandu township government, are being prosecuted by the People's Procuratorate of Leiyang, where the flood occurred.

The officials were aware of flood hazards in the mine but failed to take measures to halt production, procurators said.

Nineteen miners were working underground when the mine was flooded. Only six managed to escape.
