Two people were killed and nine injured Wednesday in an explosion at a furniture plant in east China's Jiangsu Province, municipal authorities said.

Oil and materials in a workshop of Zhenghe Wood Co., Ltd. caught fire and exploded at around 1:52 p.m. in Jiangdu City, Jiangsu, killing two people at the site, according to a statement from Jiangdu's publicity department.

The nine injured were taken to a local hospital. Further investigations were underway, it added.
