Chinese archeologists have unearthed a wooden figurine with a rare shape in an ancient tomb from the Chu Kingdom of the Warring States period (403 - 221 BC) in central China's Hubei Province.

Five wooden figurines were unearthed from the tomb, which dates back 2,300 years, in Huangxie Village, Jingmen City, in a rescue excavation that began one month ago.

One of the figurines is a man with hands folded in front and is shorter and more exquisite than most figurines discovered in Chu tombs, said Huang Wenxin, a researcher with the Hubei Provincial Archeological Institute.

Archeologists also discovered artifacts, including bronze basins, ear cups, jade pendants and dagger-axes, Huang said.
