Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao is expected to reiterate Beijing's commitment to peaceful development at the upcoming UN General Assembly general debate.

In his speech scheduled at around 1700 GMT Thursday, Wen will reaffirm that China remains committed to the policy of reform and opening up and to the path of peaceful development, Xinhua has learned.

This is the second time for the Chinese premier to take the podium at an annual general debate of the UN General Assembly. In 2008, Wen stressed that China's development is a peaceful one and will never harm or threaten anybody.

China is a responsible developing country, and is ready to work together with the international community to promote global harmony and sustainable development, he said at the 2008 debate.

This year, after a speech at the general debate, Wen is expected to attend a UN Security Council meeting where he will brief other attendants on China's viewpoints over the international security situation and raise proposals to improve the function of the Security Council under current circumstances.

Meanwhile, Wen is also slated to appear on several other diplomatic occasions, including a meeting with Bulgarian Prime Minister Boyko Borissov.
