Online store owners will have to submit their names and addresses to their online trade platform providers beginning July 1, according to the Online Trade and Related Service Management Methods released by the State Administration of Industry and Commerce.

The new policies regulate the whole process of online trade and related services, including market entry, commodity entry, trade information, contract, certificate and competition, exclusive trademark rights and consumers’ and sellers’ rights.

Online store owners will need to only provide ID information, and the online trade platform provider will set up their registration profiles. They are also required to send digital receipts to their customers that will be used as proof to deal with complaints.

Online trade platform providers will need to check and update the IDs of store owners. The owner’s information should be kept on record for at least two years. If consumers complain about the commodity or service, the platform provider should give the consumers the seller’s ID and help consumers seek compensation.

For illegal online behavior, the administrations of industry and commerce can fine the illegal website 10,000 to 30,000 yuan, or even cooperate with the local communication management department to shut down the website.
