Taiwan authorities said Friday that prosecutors in the island have sued 76 people and detained 150 over "vote buying" charges and other irregularities in the "three-in-one" elections scheduled for Saturday.

The elections will turn out Taiwan's new county and city chiefs, county and city lawmakers, and township chiefs.

Among the detainees, 30 were from the Kuomintang Party, 14 from the Democratic Progressive Party, 23 with no party affiliations and 54 unidentified in party affiliations, the authorities said.

Prices for vote buying in this election seem to be higher than in previous ones, prosecutors said.

The authorities vowed to continue investigating the charges after the election and if candidates are found guilty, their election results would be ruled invalid.
