The Chinese computer maker Lenovo Group is planning to move part of its personal computer manufacturing operations from China and elsewhere to Japan, Japanese newspaper Yomiuri quoted Milko Van Duijl, Lenovo's senior vice president, as saying.

In January, Lenovo and NEC, two of the world's largest personal computer makers, have announced an agreement to establish a joint venture in Japan. Lenovo will take a 51 percent stake in NEC Lenovo Japan Group, with NEC taking the remaining shares.

The partnership with Japan's biggest computer maker paves the way for Lenovo to expand in Japan, which is the world's third-largest PC market after the United States and China.

Lenovo said that it will take a 26 percent share in the Japanese market after the deal.

China's business press carried the story above on Tuesday.
