An exhibition showcasing Chinese mainland literary giant Bingxin (1990-1999), one of the most well-known contemporary authors, opened in Taiwan Saturday.

This is the first time that the full life and works of a mainland modern writer was displayed in Taiwan, according to the Bingxin Literary Museum in the woman writer's hometown of Fujian.

The month-long exhibition, held in Taiwan Soka Association, displays 157 photos and 132 Bingxin's works, original manuscripts, letters and etc.

Bingxin, who had never been to Taiwan, had many friends in this island, including the renowned literary masters of Lin Yutang (1895-1976) and Liang Shih-chiu (1902-1987).

Madame Chiang Soong Mei-ling (1897-2003), wife of Chiang Kai-shek, the former leader of Taiwan and the Kuomintang, was a schoolmate of Bingxin at Wellesley College in the United States.

Letters, greeting cards and gift books between Bingxin and her Taiwan friends were displayed at the exhibition.

Bingxin, a distinguished contemporary writer, poet, translator and social activist, was born Xie Wanying in Fuzhou, Fujian Province. Her achievements in writing for children are the most significant, and prose writings also constitute the bulk of her works.
