Milan Fashion Week is underway. Italian designer Donatella Versace unveiled a sophisticated collection that proved opposites attract, while minimalist trend setter Miuccia Prada unveiled slightly bolder designs.

Versace's collection reflected a mix of short and long dresses with high and low cuts. High-waisted skirts over the knee were paired with extremely short jackets.

The fashion icon emphasized shoulders in her designs, which embraced framed, padded and rounded styles. Decorative back-belts, or martingales, featured strongly in the collection. Sinuous dresses with inlays in PVC were also a highlight.

Models donned fringes of varying lengths, bringing movement to the flattering forms. Vivid white, red, turquoise and black colors were only interrupted by bare skin.

As for accessories, platform shoes were replaced by 12-centimeter-high stiletto heels that climbed up the ankle with little martingale belts.

Prada painted her Spring-Summer 2011 women's collection in orange, violet, green and royal blue. Her styles were characterized by bold stripes and whimsical patterns including bananas, monkeys and cherubs.

The collection's theme was exotic, with influences from the Caribbean. Carefree, loose styles were fashioned in uncomplicated cotton.

Other items on the vacation list included a wedged summer sneaker and bold furry wraps in black and white stripes on a colorful background.

Inspired by the opera in Versailles, Scognamiglio's collection glanced back to French history with architectural aura, and looked forward by using high-tech fabrics to create the volume of the designs.

Towering heels gave height to wide barely-there organza dresses in bell-shaped structures embellished with bows and crystals. Purple and leopard skin provided a shot of color to the collection, which was dominated by flesh tones and black.
