A Chinese folk song and music concert will be held in Vienna's Golden Hall this Sunday, the Oriental Jasmine Girls Band has announced.

In its first trip to the music city of Vienna, the Oriental Jasmine Girls from southeastern China's Sichuan Province, home to the giant pandas, will perform Chinese folk songs and music with traditional Chinese instruments such as the erhu, lute, dulcimer, and flute.

Ma Xuanzi, head of the band, will sing "Jasmine Flower," one of the best known Chinese songs among Western audiences, and "Baby Giant Panda," a song created specifically for Sunday's concert.

She will also work with Austrian baritone Thomas Weinhappel to sing "All I Ask of You" from the musical "Phantom of the Opera."

The concert is jointly organized by Sichuan's Chengdu Foreign Cultural Exchange Association, and the Austrian-Chinese Cultural Exchange Association.

The Czech National Symphony Orchestra will also participate in the performance.

Established in 1999, the Oriental Jasmine Girls Band is composed mostly of young graduates and undergraduates from music colleges.

The band has won a number of prestigious music awards both domestically and abroad with its unique performance style of combining traditional songs with modern musical elements.
