China's Cyclical Economy Development Forum came to a close
yesterday in Shanghai. Attendees marked its end by approving the
Shanghai Declaration, which urges people's congresses and
governments at all levels to strengthen management of the "cyclical
economy".
Cyclical economics is a development model that aims to produce
economic growth whilst better protecting the environment through
more cyclical, sustainable use of resources.
The declaration also says that evaluation of cyclical economic
activities will be linked with assessment of government
measures.
It calls on local governments to launch extensive cooperation
with businesses and academia to work out targets to promote
sustainable growth.
More than 200 participants from the National
People's Congress, government departments, research
institutions and enterprises attended the forum, which opened
Saturday.
