A symposium commemorating the 80th anniversary of the victory in the Chinese People's War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression and the World Anti-Fascist War was held in Türkiye on Tuesday.

The symposium, co-hosted by the Chinese Consulate General in Istanbul and the Marmara Group Strategic and Social Research Foundation, attracted over 100 representatives from Chinese and Turkish think tanks, media outlets, and scholars, as well as diplomatic personnel from Uzbekistan, Azerbaijan, Argentina, and Poland.

Chinese Consul General in Istanbul Wei Xiaodong noted at the symposium that the Chinese People's War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression, which began during the World Anti-Fascist War, was the earliest and longest-lasting.

The Chinese people, with enormous national sacrifices, made an indelible contribution to the victory of the World Anti-Fascist War, Wei said.

Hasan Unal, a Turkish scholar and senior associate of the Turkish foundation, said that the peace achieved 80 years ago "came at a huge cost."

The postwar order, through the UN system, sought to maintain global peace, and the world then "gradually returned toward multipolarity," Unal said.

Renowned Turkish historian Ilber Ortayli said that learning from World War II can help prevent future conflicts and inform decisions in today's complex international landscape.

A photo exhibition was also held on the occasion, featuring 60 historical photographs provided exclusively by Xinhua News Agency.
