Vice President Xi Jinping?inspected the equestrian events venues for the 2008 Beijing Olympics and Paralympics Sunday afternoon to get firsthand information about Hong Kong's preparations for the Games.
Xi arrived in Hong Kong Sunday morning from Shenzhen on a three- day inspection tour.
Chinese Vice President Xi Jinping also met with Donald Tsang, chief executive of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) government, in Hong Kong Sunday morning.
During the meeting, Xi said that the central government is "satisfied" with Tsang's and the HKSAR government's work, and Hong Kong is on the whole doing well currently.
The vice president pointed out that under the influence of the soaring prices of oil and food in the international market, Hong Kong is facing mounting inflation pressure, which has affected the daily life of local citizens, but "the SAR government has adopted some measures to tackle the issues."
He added that the central government will continue supporting the SAR government's efforts to boost economic development and improve the livelihood of local people.
It was Xi's first visit to Hong Kong since he assumed the office of Chinese Vice President in March 2008.
