Fencing Classification Procedures

(a) Complete personal details

(b) According to the appropriate disability complete Bench Test assessment.

Explanation for assessment points for muscle test see below.

Explanation for assessment points for dysfunction see below.

Levels of amputation to be marked on body chart see Form D.

Assessment of range of movement see Form C.

Explanation of assessment points for range of movement see Form C.

(c) Functional test see Form D Grades:

0 = no function

1 = weak function

2 = fair function

3 = normal function

The total points of the functional test are used as a guide-line for the classification of the fencers in the classes 2 to 4.

(d) Classifications:

Total points awarded for the functional tests are referred to the appropriate functional classification profile to determine the class into which the competitor belongs. The profiles 1a-4 are to be used as a general guide-line of the classification.

(e) Muscle stenghth testing scale MCR - Scale

0: total lack of voluntary contraction

1: trace - faint contraction without any movement

2: poor - contraction with very weak movement through full range of movement, when gravity is eliminated.

3: fair - contraction with movement through the complete joint, range against gravity.

4. good - contraction with full range of movement against gravity and some resistance.

5. normal - contraction with normal strength through full range of motion against full resistance.

(f) Pointscore dysfunction (dyscoordination, spasticity, atheosis, ataxia)

1: very minimal coordinative movement possible - non functional

2: the sequence of movement is very awkward and can only be carried out very slowly and uncoordinated and/or not more than 25% range of movement by fast repetition

3: the movement can only be carried out slowly but roughly without faults and/or not more than 50% range of movement by fast repetition

4: the movements are slightly uncoordinated and/or not more than 75% range of motion by fast repetition

5: normal sequence of movement
